On December 14th 2022, I had the honor to accompany Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, to attend the ASEAN – EU Business Summit which also marked 45th anniversary of ASEAN-EU Dialogue relations.
Samdach Techo also expressed the potential areas of synergy between the four priority areas of the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP), namely: maritime cooperation, connectivity, the UN SDGs, economic and other possible areas of cooperation, and the seven priority areas of the EU Strategy for Cooperation in the Indo-Pacific, which include: sustainable and inclusive prosperity; green transition; ocean governance; digital governance and partnerships; connectivity; security and defence; and human security. It is clear then that the EU has been among ASEAN’s biggest supporters and a trusted strategic partner.
Key topics discussed by stakeholders include the reorientation of the EU's interest in ASEAN, trade, investment and the digital economy, the achievement of sustainable development, and the growth of trade and investment. For Cambodia, His Excellency Pan Sorasak, Minister of Commerce and High Representative of Samdech Techo Hun Sen, was invited as a speaker to share his experiences and as an entry point in the forum.
In addition, I also attended the meeting to promote barcode technology, as the meeting focused on promoting barcode technology in Cambodia and exploring the possibility of expanding cooperation across ASEAN. Barcode was established on April 26, 1974 and is headquartered in Brussels, Belgium with 116 offices worldwide. More than 2 million barcode member companies operate and operate more than 6 billion barcode technology transactions every day. Barcode Cambodia became a member of Barcode on December 1, 2003 and is the 100th member of Barcode International. Currently, the main sectors that barcode technology is using are: retail, health, transportation, logistics, food and many more potential areas in businesses.
The 10th ASEAN-EU Business Summit is a platform for facilitating important dialogues under the theme "Deepening ASEAN-EU Trade, Sustainable Development for All" and was held to gather input as well as key recommendations to further strengthen the ASEAN-EU Joint Trade and Investment Relations.
